As your incoming Chapter President I wanted to send out a brief introduction and notice for the upcoming year.
For those who don’t know me, I have been with the Los Gatos / Monte Sereno Police Department since 1986 and in property since 1994. I have worked with CAPE at various levels including the State Board and No Ca Chapter. Over the years I have been involved with organizing property training courses as well as teaching. I am very committed to helping our Chapter members receive training in those areas which are vital to our daily job functions including; Basic Evidence, Firearms, Biological Evidence, Packaging, etc.
I am very interested in providing opportunities for your area agencies to develop localized regular training. We in Santa Clara County have been meeting on a regular basis since 1997 with all LEAs, DA’s Office, Courts, lab, Probation. This has benefitted all of us in property within the county.
I am working on developing a process to send out notices and other chapter information via our CAPE web site in the Chapter section. If that becomes operational, I will send one last email out to notify you of that resource. I know many of us receive a huge amount of emails and the web site may be the best avenue for communication of chapter business. Since we currently receive the chapter meeting minutes on the web page, then perhaps we can expand the web use to include other chapter information.
Unfortunately, I won’t be at the meeting the end of this month. I am on a working group with NIJ/NIST to develop national guidelines for the preservation and disposition of biological evidence. We are meeting on the East Coast during the scheduled meeting date. But I would like to hear from you regarding future training ideas and locations for our Chapter. Please either email or phone me with your input.
Early August I will be putting some training ideas together, finalizing the communication link for the web, and contacting those interested in developing localized training / meeting groups. I look forward to working with you all this year.
